Rollem exhibiting at Get up to Speed
Rollem will be exhibiting at Get up to Speed with Engineering and Manufacturing on 26th April 2017 at Magna in Rotherham. The event is now in it’s seventh year and sees around 2,000 young people meet businesses, training providers, colleges and universities to find out more about the exciting job opportunities in engineering and manufacturing across the Sheffield City Region.
There is a massive skills shortage in the engineering sector, 182,000 needed per year to 2022, and employers are struggling to recruit the skills they need and so The work-wise Foundation and Get up to Speed were set up by employers to help address this gap. With the recent announcements by Mclaren Automotive and Boeing that they will be building new factories just off the Advanced Manufacturing Park in Rotherham these skills are set to be even more in demand in the region.
Amongst the attractions and exhibitors will be Mazak (one of the largest CNC machine manufacturers) bringing a range of interactive and virtual reality equipment, the Army bringing a Husky vehicle, a biplane from the Vulcan to the Sky team, Stunt Pilot Lauren Richardson, University of Sheffield are bringing a 18m wing span human powered glider, the RAF, HS2 Rail College from Doncaster, a helicopter, the Bloodhound Rocket car regional finals, Lincoln Welding with the virtual welding equipment, a dalek, 10m scalectric and F1 simulator. www.getuptospeed.org.uk/about/attractions
There will be a VIP lunch sponsored by Santander, which will also showcase the Innovation Competition and judging will take place throughout the morning. Year 7 to 11 students from a secondary school are teamed up with a local engineering, manufacturing or technology business to work on a real-life industry specific innovation challenge set by the company. The challenge runs from January 2017 to 26th April 2017. Supported by the IET and IMechE through their joint Engineering Education Grant Scheme each challenge is set by a business to simulate an actual business problem, giving insight into the daily challenges faced in business. The challenges enable participants not only to understand product design and development, taking the product to market, contributing directly to enterprise and entrepreneurship.

This year we will be introducing a Futures Zone with CPD opportunities and materials and activities to take back into school.
