Dave Reckless retires after 44 years service

Stores Supervisor, Dave Reckless has completed 44 years service with Rollem. Dave started at 16 years old as an apprentice machinist, before moving into stores and taking responsibility for the company’s purchasing.

Dave received gifts from the company and his colleagues to mark his retirement. Following retirement Dave intends to spend time with family and will be travelling in their motorhome.

Rollem exhibiting at DScoop in Vienna from 13th to 15th June 2018

Rollem will be exhibiting at DScoop in Vienna, Austria from Wednesday 13th to Friday 15th June 2018 on stand 54.

International print finishing systems manufacturer, Rollem, will be showcasing a business card slitting and collection and a die cutting system.

DScoop is run by HP as a community for the partners, owners and operators of HP Graphic Arts equipment. The international conference provides an opportunity for networking, learning and exchanging ideas with creatives, print professionals, solution partners and HP specialists.

Rollem exhibiting at Xerox Forum 2018 in Warsaw

Rollem are exhibiting at Xerox Forum 2018 from Tuesday 22nd to Thursday 24th May in Warsaw, Poland.

The Xerox Forum plays host to over 300 attendees from Xerox’s Premium Partners, and Graphic Communication Solution Resellers. This year’s theme is Define your strategy, create your future which will help attendees shape their messages for their customers, providing content, added value and networking.

Rollem are a Xerox Business Partner supplying print finishing systems designed and manufactured in the UK to customers around the world.

Rollem exhibiting at Get up to Speed

Rollem will be exhibiting at Get up to Speed on Wednesday 18th April 2018, which will make a welcome return to its now well-established home at Magna Science Adventure Centre in Rotherham.

This high profile, interactive event, started in 2011 and moved to Magna in 2015, since when it has grown into what is believed to be the largest event of its kind in the north. Attracting over 2,100 attendees in 2017 and expected to have another record year in 2018, it brings together students, adults and employers, not just from the region, but across the UK.

The event is driven by the regions employers, with an already impressive list of sponsors confirmed, including Liberty Speciality Steels, Cooper Brown Enterprises, AESSEAL plc, Highlander IT & Telecoms, The Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) and the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET). Get up to Speed is a highly interactive event aimed at showcasing the science, technology, engineering and manufacturing sectors, it’s employers and employment opportunities to young people, parents and educators.

The event aims to inspire; building confidence and knowledge in these sectors as a great place to work in a fun and interactive way.

The Made in Sheffield brand is recognised around the world and the region is renowned internationally for its expertise in high-precision engineering, metals production, new technologies and the high-quality design and manufacturing of products for a wide range of global industries. In engineering alone, with 186,000 new engineers required nationally per year between now and 2024 to fill the expected skills gap, local companies understand the need to help celebrate and promote the industry. This is not just nationally and internationally, but more importantly locally, to ensure that there are enough talented and skilled young people entering the industry to fill the region’s growing skills needs.

Many local companies, and increasingly national companies, get involved in the event through The work-wise Foundation, attending with their apprentices and graduates to talk to young people and those who educate and influence them, about opportunities and careers available. Eight years on, some of those early visitors are attending as apprentices and graduates, telling their own stories and inspiring others.

Talking about the 2018 event John Barber CEO of the work-wise Foundation and Chair of the Get up to Speed Steering Group explains:

“Get up to Speed is free to visit and is designed to inspire and inform through a wide range of hands on activities, showcasing many different businesses from traditional to advanced technologies plus support and education organisations. Previous exhibits have ranged from Virtual Reality Welding, CNC Machining, VR and Augmented Reality tools for the rail industry to a human powered sail rocket, hang gliders, a bi-plane with the Vulcan ‘To the Skies’ Bomber Project and a female stunt pilot. Vehicles have included the Bloodhound SSC, F1 cars, drag and racing motorcycles, armoured military vehicles, Rail Ranger off road vehicle that also runs on rail tracks, University Formula Racing Teams and of course our friendly Dalek, plus much more. This year we have extended the event to encompass science and technology as well as engineering and manufacturing, as we recognise ever changing range of opportunities opening up to young people.

Recognising the importance of those who influence young people’s choices we will also be running teacher awareness seminars on the day so they can take back to school knowledge and practical activities, and spread the word further”.

The day gets underway with a Business Breakfast at 8am and the main event following at 9:30am, running until 5pm.

Rollem installs new system at St Austell Printing Company

Rollem have supplied a bespoke system to Cornish based printer St Austell Printing Company who are using the system to cut B2 sheets, auto collating and wrapping the personalised playing cards into sets.

St Austell Printing Company (SAPC) has won a contract to print Top Trump cards at its St Austell Business Park base. The firm is expected to print two million packs of the iconic card game a year.

The Revolution’s typical running speed is 2,400 sheets per hour enabling St Austell Printing Company to expand their production capacity.  The system was installed in October 2016 with Rollem having completed installation and operator and service training with St Austell Printing Company to enable them to make any adaptations that they may require.

Stuart Murphy, Managing Director of Rollem said “We are pleased to be able to work with St Austell Printing Company to tailor this system to meet their needs which will enable them to increase production with a highly accurate and quality finish.  Rollem’s equipment will also play a role in helping St Austell Printing Company minimise their effect on the environment by reducing the waste produced in the finishing process.”

SAPC’s Managing Director, Peter Moody, said: “It’s fantastic to have won this contract and it’s great to celebrate British manufacturing. The Rollem machine was produced in Sheffield and the Top Trump cards are printed in Cornwall before being packaged in Oxford. It’s exciting to think that all over the world people will be playing the game that we’ve produced here in St Austell.”

Rollem expanding team for future growth

Last month four new starters joined Rollem in Tankersley, Barnsley, the business has seen growth in 2017 particularly in its European markets and is anticipating an increased turnover this year.

The new appointments expand sales support and enable greater support on after sales services for new and existing customers.

Peter Kendall, 25 joins as Design Engineer, Peter has worked as a design engineer in the oil and gas industry for the last 7 years, which includes design of parts from the size of a football up to the size of football pitch!

Jason Pass, 45 joins as a Fitter, Jason previously worked at Rollem for 20 years before leaving to take over a pub which he ran for 4 years. He moved back into industry 2 years ago before re-joining Rollem at the beginning of June.

Carl Snape, 36 joins as a Machinist, Carl has over 18 years’ experience in similar roles. Paul Pazsek, also joins as Welder.

Rachel Murphy, 24 joins as Business Support Manager. Rachel has just graduated from Sheffield Hallam university with BA Hons Business and Marketing degree prior to university she ran her own business and has held other similar roles.

Rollem will be launching new and exciting products towards the end of 2017 and into early 2018 which will expand the range of market sectors and applications.

Rollem exhibiting at Print Show 2017

Rollem will be exhibiting at The Print Show 2017 on stand A03b from Wednesday 11th to Friday 13th October 2017 at the International Centre in Telford, UK.  Rollem will be demonstrating an offline business card print finishing system with conveyor.

Stewart Dyer joins Rollem as European Sales Manager

Stewart Dyer joined Rollem at the beginning of May as European Sales Manager. Stewart has 34 years experience in manufacturing in Technical and Sales management roles and holds a degree in Industrial Engineering.

Stewart has 17 years experience at QuadTech Inc., international capital equipment manufacturer to the print industry.

Stewart will build on Rollem’s existing relationships and reputation for quality print finishing systems, focussing on growing the European marketplace.

Stuart Murphy, Managing Director said “This is an exciting time for Rollem as we are seeing an increasing in UK and European business, Stewart will play a crucial role in continuing that growth.”

 

Rollem to exhibit at IPEX 2017

Rollem will be exhibiting at IPEX 2017 on stand F150 next to the PICON pavilion from Tuesday 31st October to Friday 3rd November 2017 at the NEC in Birmingham, UK.  Rollem will be demonstrating a number of their print finishing systems at the show, further details will be released next year.

IPEX is one of the world’s longest established exhibitions for the print industry with a heritage that dates back to the 1800’s. It is the UK’s largest and most prestigious print solutions event and will attract some 20,000 visitors and 400 + exhibitors.

The next edition will focus on PRINT IN ACTION. IPEX 2017 will showcase the full spectrum of working print equipment with the latest technology and innovations in production and applications on display.
